![]() ![]() Also, forensic pathologists who examined the crew’s remains indicate there is no evidence that shockwaves killed the crew. Objection: There is no evidence of shock impact or damage on the submarine from the torpedo blast. This suggests whatever happened to the ship, it was either so sudden that the crew had no time to react, or the crew accepted their fate. They did not attempt to move or escape as is evidenced by numerous other examples of submarines having taken on water or when oxygen levels drop. One critical piece of physical evidence lends credence to this theory: When researchers made their way into the hull of the submarine, they found all of the crew members at their respective positions/seats, seemingly resting peacefully. The shockwave theory is supported by a recent study by a Duke University team who created a scaled model that indicated that the blast would have created a strong enough shockwave to kill the crew on board the Hunley. If this were the case, the shock of the explosion could have caused enough damage to the sub and or create a shockwave that immediately incapacitated the crew. This suggests the possibility that the torpedo could have exploded while still attached. Over the years, the conservation process has revealed fascinating new details, and I encourage anyone who wants to learn more information to visit, which is where the above information is from.Ī fragment of copper was found attached to the end of the spar, that the Hunley used to attach its torpedo. The submarine was located in 1995, successfully raised in 2000, and is now on display. The submarine would not see the light of day again for over 136 years. Their fate became a mystery and their accomplishment a legend. Instead, the submarine and crew disappeared into the darkness of the sea. The Confederates on Sullivan’s Island say they saw the agreed upon signal and lit a fire to guide the Hunley home, but she never returned. Dixon, had promised the troops at Battery Marshall, if successful, he would signal to shore by showing two blue lights. One record indicates Hunley Captain, Lieutenant George E. Some speculate this was the last reported sighting of the Hunley for more than a century. Nearly 45 minutes later, a Union sailor claimed he saw a blue light on the water. The Housatonic sank in less than five minutes, causing the death of 5 of its 155 crewmen. Below the surface, the spar torpedo detonated and the explosion blew a hole in the ship. The alarm sounded and the sailors fired their guns, the bullets pinging off the metal hull of the Hunley. As the object approached the ship, the crew realized it was no porpoise. The officer on the deck thought it might be a porpoise, coming up to blow. ![]() At about 8:45pm, several sailors on the deck of the Union ship, the USS Housatonic, reported seeing something on the water just a few hundred feet away. The Hunley’s approach was stealth and by the time they were spotted, it was too late. On 17 February 1864, the Confederate submarine, The Hunley attacked and sank the 1,240- ton United States Navy #cite_note-autogenerated1-2) screw sloop-of-war Housatonic, which had been on Union blockade-duty in Charleston's outer harbor. I have attempted to be as concise as possible. Forgive the length of this post, but I wanted those unfamiliar with this case to have the necessary information. I am very interested in hearing your thoughts on this fascinating mystery. Below, I have provided a brief background, then I will provide a few of the leading theories, the supporting evidence and the objections. After recently visiting the Hunley museum in Charleston, South Carolina, I have been fascinated by this mystery and have done quite a bit of research, but alas, the research leads to more questions and each theory has its own contradictions. As long as the problem is not caused by the microphones/preamps itself (some microphones are noisy!) then it’s very likely to fix the problem. It will fix noises that are caused by ground loops, often presented as whining, buzz or loud shh noises. Will it fix the noise I’m getting from my sound card/microphone/midi keyboard/other device? If your computer has a good quality USB DC supply then the isolator might not further improve the sound quality. It can also clear up the sound from ground issues that is not so apparent, creating a clearer background in the audio. The noise could also be caused by other factors, like the microphone or preamp itself (some gear are noisy!), the isolator will not help with that. If you are experiencing noise problems, then it will probably remove or reduce those if they are caused by a ground loop. Will it improve the sound quality from my DAC? Yes it supports all USB types, the isolator doesn’t care, it just passed on the data to your computer. Most devices that require USB galvanic isolation doesn’t require 5gbps. Audio devices doesn’t need more than 480Mbps, so it will be sufficient. It will max out at 480Mbps, meaning if you connect a USB3.0 hard drive you will not get transfers at 5Gbps speeds. Similar to a USB hub, the isolator is “transparent” to the computer and doesn’t require any driver or configuration in settings. Will the High-Speed isolator work with my audio or other USB device?ĭoes it require a driver or special setting? If it has mic preamp, phantom power or is a bigger type sound card then it might to require more than 200mA power and the High-Speed isolator with its higher power capability is required. If you have a two channel DAC that supports not more than 96kHz/24bit then the cheaper Full-Speed isolator is likely to work if the DAC doesn’t require too much power. Do I need the High-Speed isolator, or can I use the other cheaper one? ![]() ![]() ![]() Unlike Resident Evil 7, or even the ports of the Serious Sam games, there are no characters to establish deeper connections with or atmospheric tones that are greatly enhanced by the sense of presence there’s just pretty stuff to look. That said, headset support is hardly essential to the experience and ultimately I didn’t feel like it was adding enough to warrant a second playthrough of a game I’ve seen through once before. Exploring the world of Talos Principle took me back to the DK1 days of the Oculus Rift where you could get simple joy out of just seeing an environment in VR. The vibrant world around you really shines inside headsets too this is one of the first VR games in a while that gives you time to stop, breathe and truly appreciate the world around you, with ornaments and objects that really feel like they’re there. Using the Vive wands or Touch controllers you can reach out and grab these nodes and then move around the world using one of a vast range of options the developer has supplied (which, again, deserves a pat on the back). Gameplay translates pretty naturally to VR thanks to its simplicity. Eventually, you’ll use these same devices to create circuits between switches, and levels will add additional layers like fans that can shoot you over to inaccessible areas. You set about solving challenges he’s laid out for you, which largely involve using turret-like nodes that can disable path-blocking shields, patrolling bombs and motion-sensing machine guns. The Talos Principle casts you as an android that awakens in a mysterious garden with an unseen being calling himself Elohim claiming to be your divine creator. ![]() Better yet, the game’s considered pacing and mechanics make it a natural fit for the platform and an unmissable puzzle experience, but only if you haven’t played it before. It should be no surprise, then, that The Talos Principle VR is an accomplished translation of the 2014 original into the unwieldy new world of Rift and Vive. As if that weren’t enough, it’s now brought over one of the best puzzle games of the last few years to headsets too. I struggled on the courses a bit.Can we just stop for a moment to give Croteam a well-earned pat on the back? In a time when most developers are struggling to commit to VR for good reason, here’s a team that’s not only given us one of the best wave shooters going but two comprehensive ports of its past games, all on Vive and Rift. The Talos Tetris puzzles were mostly easy for me, I think there was one that took me 10 tries but usually just a couple tries. ![]() I've played a bit of Tetris as a kid and overall my brain thinks geometrically. I was totally expecting there to be an "oh shit" gigantic puzzle somewhere in Talos to reach an easter egg. The ones in Talos are interesting because there is no room for error and you are given all the shapes at once. Tetris is a good example of a skill building exercise for shapes, because there is room for error and you slowly develop your memory and instinct. You also develop the memory of other shapes to think "okay to finish this row I need an L piece and a straight piece, that also sets up the next row for a Z piece" and you can plan out the strategy. As the pieces fall faster and/or you run out of room on screen there is less time to spend on rotating them and you have to develop the instinct to know where a piece will fit. As the pieces fall you can rotate them but only get one chance to place them. I once did the entire edge of a jigsaw puzzle with all the pieces upside down so it was just shapes and no colors, that was a trip lol My wife will be doing a jigsaw puzzle on the table and really struggling to find a certain piece, I'll walk up and study the shape/color for a few seconds, then glance around at the loose pieces and find it in about 2 minutes without touching any pieces. A few people can solve the entire Talos tetris puzzles before moving any pieces (savant), some people will play around rotating some pieces and trying them until it clicks (me), and some people have to keep randomly moving pieces over and over and over until it works (you). I think it's easier for some people depending on how your imagination functions. ![]() I think it's practice and repetition of moving shapes, until your brain can do it ahead of you actually moving the object, the real kicker is being able to rotate them in your mind. ![]() ![]() Browser - Google Chrome 10+, Internet Explorer (IE)10.0+, and Firefox 3.6.x, 12.Browser - Google Chrome 10+, Internet Explorer (IE)10.0+, and Firefox 3.6.x, 12.0+.Operating System - Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10.Remove "HP Support Solutions Framework" through Add/Remove programs on PC.HP Support Solutions Framework - Windows Service, localhost Web server, and Software. ![]() Rated 5 out of 5 by Bev W from Best price Ive seen. ![]() Rated 4 out of 5 by Sanjeff from Sanj Great Purchase.
